About me
Heya!
My name is Edu. I am a software developer based in Barcelona.
My background
I was born in a nice city called Barcelona…
… but I’ve lived most of my professional life in 🇮🇪 Ireland 🍀
Professional career
I have worked as a software developer for the last 9 years, most of the time as a consultant.
This has allowed me to meet lots of great people, as well as work on some challenging projects in different industries:
- from 🖥💳 online marketplaces and 👚 retail,
- to ️🧑🏼⚕ healthcare and ️👩🏼🔬 medical research,
- as well as 🧠 Business Intelligence & analytics 📊, Forecasting & Decision Support Systems 📈
- and also in public-sector, in 🇪🇺 E.U. projects related to import-export of 📦 products and services.
Passions, likes and dislikes
- Automation
- Automating anything boring, that does not actually require human attention to get done properly.
- Digital Rights
- Worried about the current trend towards global, persistent, unstoppable, unwarranted surveillance.
- Magic
- Both, the Penn and Teller kind of magic, as well as the advanced-technology-makes-this-look-like-magic kind of thing
- “Machine Spirit“
- Admiring swarms of devices working together autonomously to protect lives or improve living conditions
- while they do so without violating anyone’s privacy,
- and knowing that no single human actually understand the full complexity of the entire ecosystem,
- but knowing that they are all working really hard to make Asimov proud.
- Examples:
- So…You know when you’re looking out the window of an airplane that’s about to land, and you see all of those tiny lights blinking in the distance, and you know that each of those systems is -secretly- conspiring to keep you safe… so yeah.. THAT is Hot! 🔥
- I would include the Internet as such a magical and complex system, but you know… that last requirement around privacy kind of excludes it from this list.
- Admiring swarms of devices working together autonomously to protect lives or improve living conditions
When I’m not in FabAcademy you can find me…
- Going for a walk around the city
- Tinkering
- Participating in a Correfoc (loosely translated as a “Fire-run”)
If you’re new to Barcelona or you want to know what a Correfoc is, here’s a 5 min summary:
