WEEK 17

INVENTION, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND INCOME

Individual assignment: develop a plan for dissemination of your final project prepare drafts of your summary slide (presentation.png, 1920x1080) and video clip (presentation.mp4, 1080p HTML5, less minute, less 10 MB) and put them in your root directory.

1. Individual Assignment

1.1. Invention

MY IDEA FOR THE FINAL PROJECT IS TO BUILD A VIRTUAL REALITY SIMULATOR FOR ELECTRIC SCOOTER. "VR SCOOTER".

I design and build an electric scooter on a simulation platform that will integrate the movements made by the user in a virtual scenario created in Unity software, and it can also be viewed using Vive Cosmos HMD. This project is composed in 3 parts:

  • Desing and construction of an electric scooter (not funcional). Replicate the structure and inputs.
  • Design and development of a 1 degree of freedom platform.
  • Creation scenario VR in Unity software and communicate with platform.

The user’s brake, throttle and steering handlebar actions are transferred to the virtual scene and their road slope are replicated on the platform.

1.2. Intellectual Property

I am going to use the Creative Commons (CC) license, it is an American, non-governmental, non-profit organization focused on expanding and publicizing the amount of creative works available so that others, in addition to their authors, can build and share legally.

It has a list of various copyright licenses, free to the public, that allow creators to communicate their work by specifying what rights they deserve and what rights they waive for the benefit of sharing them with others. They do not replace copyrights, but are based on them.

First you have to enter your website and configure the license.

Allow adaptations of your work to be shared: NO = The licensor permits others to copy, distribute, display, and perform the work, but not distribute derivative works based on it.

Allow commercial uses of your work?: NO = The licensor permits otehres to copy, distribute, display, and perform the work for non-commercial purposes only.

You are free to:

  • - Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format.

The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as you follow the license terms. Under the following terms:

  • - Attribution: You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.
  • - NonCommercial: You may not use the material for commercial purposes.
  • - NoDerivatives: If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you may not distribute the modified material.

1.3. Business Models

Regarding the development of a plan for dissemination, from the research group to which I belong within the Technical University of Cartagena, we carry out many research projects in the field of occupational risk prevention, most of them requested by the Public institution competent in the matter at the territorial level, normally by Autonomous Communities, is how this type of competences is distributed in Spain.

1.3.1 Marketing

Possibly inform the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health the scope of the results obtained in my final Fabacademy project and submit it to its evaluation for the study of a possible implantation as a simulator for road training and education.

In addition, at the UPCT we have an Office for the Transfer of Research Results (OTRI) that acts as a bridge between universities and universities and companies that may be interested in exploiting any of the developments made by research groups in their studies.

I can request that the product be offered to companies such as Driving Schools or companies that have driving simulators.

This office can even manage the application for a patent that endorses and protects the product. On two previous occasions in my research group we have developed and obtained a patent supported by the UPCT of the OTRI and both are in operation.

1.3.2 Scientific Disclosure

Another way to disseminate the results of the research is through the publication of popular science articles, I will prepare a scientific article of my work, through an adequate writing and presenting discussed and contrasted results.

In the above cases, it would be our SEDIC and SEDI-CUp-ct FabLab work team who would manufacture the first units and we would study if demand grows how to respond to manufacturing on a larger scale.

1.4. The slide and video clip of my Final Project.

For the creation of the Slide I have used PowerPoint and GIMP, I have used an image of the final result of the Project and photographs of the components that compose it.

The summary video of my final project is this:
