About me⚓︎

Hi, it’s me, Sergio! I am 24 year old boy who lives in Madrid. I’m

moving to Leon to enjoy the FabAcademy as a local student

here. I will be the only one doing the course localy at the lab, as

the rest of my collegues have their own, but we will be sharing

all the process with the instructors here at Leon.

Since this is an online course in which we are going to participate and interact exclusively in a digital way with people around the world, I thought it would be a good idea to model and scale myself in 2D, so my colleagues could know my size and form in a different and more accurate way! For them to have a refference, I decided to use a human scale measurement model, so in these sketches I’m emulating the well known figure of the Modulor of Le Corbusier, one of the most important standards of human proportion. Maybe if they feel lonely at any point, they could even replicate a cardboard Sergio so that I can keep them company! 😂

My academic background⚓︎

My background is diverse but mostly not specific to any branch of knowledge. I have studied architecture for five years at San Pablo CEU university from where I have developed a taste for design. The last year and a half I have been learning programming as a student at the 42 Madrid academy, where I have integrated new learning methodologies and a background in programming. Now my adventure is about FabAcademy, where my idea is to enjoy the learning process of building something by yourself.

This are some projects I made as an architecutre student. The left one was made to make an approach to the human scale and the use of inflatables in architecture. The right one was an urban planning project at the north of Madrid, dedicated to research different urban topologies and housing, where the use of shared spaces and modules were approached.

In a more personal way⚓︎

I am a vital, observant, sensitive and cooperative person. I am passionate about knowledge in most areas, and try to keep informed and updated on what interests me. I love thinking about concepts, sketching ideas and crafting things with a purpose. I perceive making as a way of expression and a problem solving tool. I am also interested in learning about other methods and work mentalities other than mine, bringing enthusiasm and another perspective to any initiative.

As a human being, I like travelling, playing sports and meeting other people. Of these three cliches, I enjoy what a trip opens your gaze, the gratifying feeling of sport and knowing the stories that each person contains. This photo is a sample of it, enjoying the sunset at Playa de Canallave in Cantabria, Spain.

Why FabAcademy?⚓︎

When I studied architecture at the CEU I discovered that one of the processes I enjoyed most was making. Sometimes models for projects, sometimes structures to break down, they were processes that brought out the best in me. I discovered that the university itself had a Digital Fabrication Laboratory and later they started offering the FabAcademy. The possibility of designing and making your own ideas is something that has always appealed to me.

Due to life events, I eventually dropped out of university and chose other paths, but shortly after and because of the pandemic, FabAcademy reappeared as an option, and I definitely decided to take it. I found the learning model of the course, the community and the environment of collaboration and research and development provided by the course very interesting.

Also the search for a purpose of social collaboration in my life, increased by the pandemic, has led me to consider all the possibilities and tools that the course can offer me to develop projects that I have always had in mind. Maybe one of them will be my final project, we will see!

Let’s FabAcademy!
