15. Molding and Casting¶
shitycornschokoladentaler¶
First of all I downloaded the picture of the shitycorn of my choice. Then I traced it and gave it a volume.
problems¶
When I was thinking about the manufacturing process, I noticed that it was difficult to mill the tight spots.
It would have been good if I had left the strength of the thinnest drill bit as free space between the islands.
The drill cannot draw precise contours in this way.
new try¶
In order to allow enough space for the drill this time, I have drawn a circle (light blue) with a diameter of 0.8mm as a movable template.
wax milling¶
So that the wax doesn’t slip, I apply double-sided adhesive tape and stick it to the base plate of the milling machine.
Then I create the G-Code for roughly milling out the shape with a 0.8mm milling cutter
and execute the order.
Then I create the g-code for the 0.4 milling cutter
and let the machine do the fine-tuning.
silicon¶
Since I would like to process chocolate, I use Wagnersil 26Le because it is food safe and suitable for very detailed castings.
In the next step I look how many grams I have to touch.
I mix the two components in a ratio of 1: 1
and fill them into the mold made from milling wax.
to remove the bubbles from the silicone, I place the mold with the freshly mixed silicone in the vacuum chamber of the vacuum casting system UHG500 Easy and create a vacuum.
After a few hours of hardening, I can remove the silicone mold from the wax mold.
work with Schokolade¶
Before food can be filled into the mold, the mold must be degassed or tempered. To do this, the mold must be heated to 200 degrees Celsius for approx. 4 hours.
While researching, I came across the ruby couverture, which is pink. It is made from selected cocoa beans in a specific process.
In order to get the correct melting and processing temperature, I decided to use a process with the sous vide device. First I vacuum seal the couverture and seal the plastic. Then I put it in a water bath at 46 degrees Celsius and wait until everything has melted. When the processing temperature of 29 degrees is reached
i take the bag out of the water bath and dry it so that no drops of water can mix with the chocolate.
In one corner I cut a small opening in the bag, in the direction of which I can press out the cuverture.
Now I let the chocolate run into the mold and spread out there.
Now I let the chocolate run into the mold and spread out there.
After cooling, I can carefully remove the Schitycorn chocolate thaler from the mold.
I would have liked to use the vacuum chamber again to pull the bubbles out of the couverture, but unfortunately we are in the restricted corona mode.

group assignment¶
Moulding and Casting Group Assignment
instructions for use for WAGNERSIL 26 LE¶
Mix Wagnersil components A and B at room temperature in a ratio of 1: 1 for approx. One minute until a streak-free color is obtained. The processing time is 30 minutes.
At 23 degrees Celsius, the model can be removed from the mold after a curing time of approx. 6 hours. At 40 degrees Celsius after an hour.
!!! food¶
When using foodstuffs, the silicone mold must be degassed or tempered before being filled for the first time. To do this, place the mold in the oven for approx. 4 hours at 200 degrees Celsius.
safety data sheet¶
For group assignment, we translate the most important things from the German safety data sheet that guarantee personal safety with the two materials.
The safety data sheet is linked for further research.
02 Hazards identification Classification: Not a dangerous preparation in terms of Directive 1999/45 / EC.
04 First aid measures General:
In the event of an accident or if you feel unwell, seek medical advice (show label or SDS if possible). After inhalation: Provide fresh air.
After skin contact: Remove the product mechanically with a cloth or paper. Wash off with plenty of water or soap and water. In case of visible skin changes or symptoms, seek medical advice (show label or SDS if possible).
After eye contact: Rinse immediately with plenty of water. If irritation persists, seek medical advice.
After swallowing: Make victim drink plenty of water in small portions. Do not induce vomiting.
08 Personal protective equipment:
Respiratory protection: Not required.
Hand protection: Recommendation: protective gloves made of butyl or nitrile rubber. Gloves suitable for use up to 60 minutes.
Eye protection: Safety glasses
