Assignment #2: 2-D and 3-D Designs

The first part of this assignment is to deign a 2-D model of Libre Freestyle diabetes monitoring device.
The program used is Adobe illustrator.
The steps to create the model are as follows:

1- Open Adobe illustrator.

2- Open and select the image of Libre Freestyle.

3- Using the Curvature Tool, trace the image; the body of the device:

4- Using the Ellipse tool, trace the button.

And also the smaller circle:

5- Using the Rectangle Tool, trace the device’s screen:

6- Using the Curvature Tool, trace the black lower section:

7- Isolate and delete the image.

8- De-activate isolation mode in order to get the final traced image:-

9- The image must be exported to a dxf in order to be used in rhino for the 3-D model:

The steps to create the model are as follows:

1- Open Rhino.

2- Open the libre.dxf file

3- Accept the Standard settings

4- Rotate the image to match the proper view on the screen

5- Select curve


img

6- Extrude. Make sure that during extrusion, the solid option is set as “yes”.

7- In order to bring the screen to the front and the button to the back, use the Boolean difference option.
