Computer controlled cutting

Boye Laser 100W

Effective cutting area: 1150x850 mm

Compatible materials: MDF, plywood, paper, cardboard, acrylic

Maximum thickness: 12mm (cardboard) 6mm (MDF, acrylic)

To characterize our laser cutter we engraved a test with different parameters and cut another one for joint clearance.

The first engraving test was carried out with linear and raster engravings, modifying three parameters (speed, power and focus) and making different combinations with them.

Raster engraving:

Power: Between 20% - 40% (100W machine)

Speed: Between 15,000 – 3,000 mm / minute

Focus: Between 150% - 50%

Vector engraving:

Power: Between 10% - 30% (100W machine)

Speed: Between 4,000 – 800 mm / minute

Focus: Between 150% - 50%

The best looking results were obtained using high speeds and low power.

Blur can be useful for thick strokes but is not recommended for small items that become difficult to read.

The focus parameter was established using a caliper:

With the ideal height (100%) and out of range values (150%, 125%, 75% and 50%).

The joint test was performed with an editable template in Solidworks indicating only the actual thickness of the material, the software changes all the slots measurements automatically.
