Project Development

With this assignment i will relate the course of actions taken to fulfill the overall Final Project since the idea and how, week after week, i started to notice certain tools to be included as well as those who in the end, will be an integral part of my design.

Starting a as a simply object, i turned into a system to be featured and also how to be improved over time, beacuse this might be a sort of "living" system, a technological piece that has the ability to evolve with newer gadgets and developments.

FINAL PROJECT

>

Since the beginning of the Fab Academy 2020 and through 2021, I have been dealing with the idea of a movable/sensitive object, however, the idea has evolved into a play with light that might create different kind of ambients in a space, by interacting with the user.

The design, again, is based on parametric hexagons, however, i'm trying to see something else, beyond the original sketch

Added the light effect through simulation, to see what might happend if light travels from downside - up

I rotated 90º the whole design, and then i mirroed it to fit as a continuous surface that evokes a circular form, but is just an optical effect.

And again, i added the light effect simulation, this time, thinking as a responsive continuous "follow me" sensor effect.

I thought about certain colors, or textures, like wood, or metal, however, i think recycled plastic and acrylic is a better material for this object.

i created a 3d model to see how it looks in a single material, now with the back-light integrated...

Also, i printed a scaled prototype to see volume and stability, this particular model was made with PLA on an Ultimaker as 1/20 overall scale.

The same model this time with a diffuse light, to see how it end up looking.

Then, i used a model of an existing project to see how it looks on site, from the outside...

And from the inside

Now i have to understand how to create a  program to suit my needs, and in this case i found two ways to achive this

The sonar: a distnace program to see in a LCD display how far or near the object are from the ultrasonic device.

Then i tested in TINKERCAD and created a simulation

After that, i used a simple program to light some LED through distance, in this first idea, the closer de object is to the ultrasonic sensor, all the lights are being lit, but this will change, beacuse i want the light "follows" the user.

Then, also, i tested in TINKERCAD and created a simulation

And then i used the program to test it on an ARDUINO UNO with an ultrasonic sensor.

In here, i applied the light set to the architectural model.

I wanted to create a simple environment and use the sensor to portray some ambients inside this space

I was evolving the idea into main lights and accent lights.

With this, the whole concept relies on a sensorial space to the common user.

So far, i have learned how to interact with electronics and programming (a quite difficult task i have to say) buy understanding this skills, will help me generate better products for my professional practice and teaching.

Regardless the complexity, i have been using a iMac all the time and everything has been working fine... however, certain programming issues appeared at the end of the course. The main idea is to have a virtual environment through TERMINAL and be able to use PYTHON or something similar.

With this idea, i eventually have the chance to use this system in a larger scale and merge it with ephereal architecture.

In the end, the arduino programming environment seems to be a better option for a visual person.

I wanted to have a nice overall product that could show to any person how light works and feel free to experiment about automation.
