WEEK-5:-3D Scanning and Printing

3D Design/printing is any of various process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. 3D printing enables you to produce complex shapes. The creation of a 3D printed object is achieved using additive processes. In an additive process an object is created by laying down successive layers of material until the object is created. Each of these layers can be seen as a thinly sliced horizontal cross-section of the eventual object.

Assignment 1-3D Design:

This week we was assigned two individual assignment. i.e.. 3D design & print and 3D scan..

The part of first assignment,I selected a mechanical molding part for 3D design and I used Sketchup software for this work. SketchUp is a 3D modeling software for drawing applications such as architectural, interior design, civil and mechanical engineering, etc..It is a freeware version and user friendly for any kind of 3D designs. My design is given below in step by step:

In this design, I was worked with Sindoh 3DWAX DP200 model 3D printer. The Poly-Lactic Acid(PLA) is used as filament in this printer. The filament is 1.75mm in diameter and a cartridge can hold 700 gram of filament. Printer nozzle will be heated up to 200 degree C for printing the object.

After design was completed the same has been loaded in to the 3dwox software and add the support to the image.

The printing process and final output is given below:

Assignment 2 - 3D Scanning:-

For 3D scanning I used Qlone 3D scan mobile application. Qlone is free tool for 3D scanning which is available on both iOS and Android. To use this app it is required the “AR mat” which can be download from the Qlone website and the object should be placed on the AR mat.

By using this app, I scanned an "Eraser" through my Mobile. The process and output is given below:

The scanned image, i.e the output is:
