WEEK-3: Computer Controlled Cutting

The Third week is about couputer controlled cutting by using 2D and 3D designing softwares.I already know a bit of both. For 2D design I was used Inkscape software Similarly, for 3D design I was used Freecad software.

2D Drawing

For 2D drawing I used Inkscape software.

Simply I design a logo using this software and cut the same by vinayal cutter. This LAB equipped with Roland CAMM-1 GS-24 vinyl cutter. It is a Desktop cutter.

The maximum cutting width area for this machine is 22.9 inches. Using this machine we can cut your own designed logos, images and stickers.

After place the sticker roll in to the vinyl cutter, put the roller under the white lines on the machine. The origin point should be set in lower left side is used to utilize the maximum area of the sticker roll and the origin should be reset when make the new one.

Now the machine is ready to make the sticker.

Great...Now, open the inkspace software and draw our logo, images or letters which one is we need. Then click the document properties from the file menu for resize our picture with in the border.

The pixels may fixed at 600 dpi and the units are in mm. After completion of this work the image saved as .png format and export for the same.

Next, open fabmodules.org and import the desired file. Then, set the force as 80 and velocity as 20 and select the cut vinyl from the menu & click the calculate tab for select the path of the cutter.

Finally, after the Completion of above said process the our file saved as .camm format. Now the files is ready to go to the vinyl cutter

I had executed the above said process and the final output of the image is given below:

LASER CUTTING:-

The second part of assignment I was to prepared a Press-Fit Kit which can be assembled in different way. For this,I was used a 3.5 mm thick wooden board.

I designed a small size of wooden speaker box. For desigining of this box I used two softwares. i.e FreeCAD and Libreoffice. Initial stage of design has beend completed by FreeCAD.

The size of the box is 5cm x 5cm x 5cm

The design is looks like:-

In freeCAD I designed one side and Top wall only. After that, I was used the Libreoffice software for further process. Here, the side wall is copy to 4 Nos and top is copy to 2 Nos. Additionally, I added one 2cm & 0.3mm circle for placing of the speaker and wire connection purpose.

The design is looks like:-

Further, the parameters I has set during the cutting were as under:-
  1. Speed = 10%
  2. Power = 100%
  3. Frequence = 51%

The final result which I received was showing in below:-
