Week 02:Computer Aided Designs

This week’s focus was to look at various kinds of design tools for computer aided design, 2D and 3D. I experimented with a few tools for 2D and 3D design. For 2D designing, experimented with GIMP and Inkscape and for 3D designing, I used the free open source software-FreeCAD.

2D Software

Vector vs Raster:
There are two types of digital graphics- vector and raster. Vector images are made of pixels of hundreds of thousands of tiny lines and curves to create an image. Raster images are composed of pixels.

We can identify a vector image by looking of its edges. A vector image will always appear smooth no matter how large you make it or how close you zoom in. Text is one of the most common types of vector image and no matter how much increase the font’s size. Its look never changes. Vector images are the most used for creating logo or illustrations.

Raster images are often called bitmap images because they are made of millions of tiny squares, called pixels. w can identify a raster or bitmap image by looking at it very closely. If we zoom in will be able to see the square outlines of each pixel.

3D Software

For 3D desigining I used FreeCAD software.FreeCAD is a free and open-source general-purpose parametric 3D CAD modeler software. Many of free and licenced 3D desigining softwares are available. I know how to use this software. So, I selected this one.By using this software I designed a Wooden Rim Model.
