This week our assignment is• group assignment: test the design rules for your 3D printer
• individual assignment: design and 3D print an object (small, few cm3, limited by printer time) that could not be made subtractively and 3D scan an object (and optionally print it) I like 3D printing very much. I saw operating 3D printer 8 years ago at Hannover messe and I fell in love․ And decided to establish 3d printing lab in Armenia and at 2014 I developed 3d Printing and CNC milling laboratories in Armenian technological centers. I used Makerbot replicator 2x and Makerbot Z18. 2x has 2 extruders and can print both ABS and PLA, Z18 has smart extruder and a camera inside, that allow to follow printing process and print only by PLA type of filament That years we organized different trainnigs for kids and teens, students from Armenian regions. They learned 3D modeling and printing.
Step 1 - 3D modeling and printingI decided to make a car from my favorite cartoon.
I used Fusion 365 for this assignment and try parametric design in Fusion.
• Create sketch failed and tried again. (Sketching and parametric process),started from the wheels
• After sketching I extruded 2 D shapes
• Turned the 2D sketch into a 3D object by expanding it from the plane
• Exported to .Stl
• Assembled all parts
I put PLA Filament into the 3d printer and prepare file to print I opened the software uploaded the file - gave the size of printing -pushed on board - send to review - after start printing.
I gave supports as the model has many parts, which needed support for construction. The duration of printing process was 10 hours.

Step 2 - 3D scanningI tested 2 type of 3d scanners Kinect Xbox 360 a and 3D sense
Started from Kinect, installed KScan3d 3D 1.2 software for 3D scanning
Here some photos of the processTried different timed the scanning process by kinect and did not like it.
Finally I used 3D sense scanner. It is a product of 3d systems, and very easy to use. I read user guide after instaleed the software for windows 10. Started scanning I decided to scan my colleague. Tried 5 times and the 6th was successfull, after I edited it by Fusion 360 and saved in ".STL". During the editing process I rounded the corners for getting more smooth corners and added missing cells. After send the file to 3D printer and start printing .
How to fix 3D scanned onjects in Fusion 360
Nobody likes to hunt around the model. Constantly zooming, panning, and rotating to find the correct edge. There are many hidden selections tricks in the sculpt workspace to alleviate this. My two favorites have to be the following tricks.
If you want to step up your selection abilities, check out “Selection Options” in the edit form dialogue box. Each option has dedicated hotkeys to increase your sculpting skills.
If there is one trick to add to your Fusion 360 toolkit, this is it. There are a variety of ways to add faces to tspline bodies, but my favorite is the ALT + Drag Technique. Turn on “Edit Form,” select an edge or face, hold Alt, and start dragging to add a face in the selected direction. This technique will add faces with G2 curvature continuity. What if you don’t want it to have G2 Continuity? Well, we have you covered (assuming you can remember this combo of keys). Again, start the “Edit form” command, hold Alt + Cntl (on windows) or Alt + Cmd (on Mac), and drag to add a face with a creased edge.
I’ll be the first to admit I am not a tspline Jedi…yet. After watching hours of some of our best concept designers, I was surprised to see that over 50% of their modeling time was in box mode. You can activate this mode by pressing Alt+1 on Windows and Cntl + 1 on Mac. So I asked, “Why are you always in box mode?” Well, they told me that it’s more important to downstream process (i.e., thickening, surfacing, etc.) to have a uniform control framework.
