On Wednesday 17 we assist the First lesson with Neil Gershenfeld. It has been a pleasure to meet the MIT Team, other students and FabLabs. Nice to meet each other. :)
In that first day we had the opportunity to receive information about Principles and Practices, everything about FabLabs global network main idea. We find also the Fab Charter in the class schedule, FabLabs rights and responsibilities: a text that would be interesting to have impressed in one of the Deusto FabLab's wall. (I will think about it)
Then, and knowing that the next wednesday lesson would be about our personal website, we have been introduced to Git on Monday 22.
Git is a “free and open source distributed version control system designed to handle everything” (Git website), and I hope I am going to learn more about it next weeks, but with Fiore's first explanations It has help me to start playing with it.
The assigment this week was to plan and sketch a potential final project, so I made some sketches around my idea.
Basically, the main idea for my final project is: SMART URBAN GARDENS.
For young people, between 20 and 50 years old, that due to this frenetic way of life has the need to stop, breathe and become aware of their environment. People who do not have, in addition, enough space: we live every time in smaller flats.
The urban gardens at home are a trending topic nowadays, but every time we have less time and less space to grow them in our homes. We work outside home, we travel, we can not maintain a routine. Plants need continuous and routine care.
How to maintain this space and small oasis in our lives? We need a remote system, which no matter how far we are, allows us to communicate and take care of the plants. A connection to our lovely garden in our pocket.
The user must be the center of the project. I would be able to make a product that is easy to assemble in different balconies (Ikea concept), by only one person, and easy to understand and use. (The user has not to know about electronics or mechanics, for example)
It has happened to me, I love being able to grow aromatic plants and some other vegetables at home. The first problem is that my balcony has 2 square meters, and the second one that I am away home usually. I like to travel and I work without a fixed schedule, so many times I can not water my plants and their end is a disaster.
