Greetings from Northeast Ohio!
My name is Rachel and I am currently a 5th grade teacher at Edison Elementary in Willoughby, Ohio. In addition to my regular teaching duties, I am a camp director for Camp Invention, a STEM-based summer camp program.
My passion is all things science. I love working with children and believe that engaging them in hands-on discovery lessons will help to create passionate life long learners. My next adventure is joining a team of education professionals to open a new school in the Willoughby-Eastlake City School District.
The School of Innovation will open in August of 2015 with grades three through five. We will grow the school until we are a fully functional academy with grades three through twelve housing two Fab Labs!
One of my responsibilities at The School of Innovation will be to run the Fab Lab and that is what led me to the Fab Academy. I am looking forward to being challenged and growing in my abilities to bring a Fab Lab to the students of my district. As I develop my project, it will be designed with our first group of students ages 8-11 in mind. I plan on combining my role of art and design instructor to help bring my students' art work to life.
