Final Project Planning
As part of my responsibilities, I will be an art and design specialist. One of the projects that I planned to do with my students is to have them recreate one of their favorite art works. I chose Van Gogh's Starry Night. Here is a simple black and white Van Gogh inspired interpretation. My handwritten notes are as follows:
"As an art teacher in a STEM-based school, my final project will reflect my needs and what I hope to bring to my students. I want to have my artist create a version of Starry Nights by Van Gogh. The art will be captured in a shadow box that they will create in the FAB Lab. The stars will be cut out and have a screen overlay. Behind the painting will be be a circuit board with positioned LED lights. The front of the painting will have a motion sensor that will trigger the lights to create a twinkle effect in the painting. The image of the tree will be created using the vinyl cutter and I plan to use molding and casting techniques to create the village"
This is a picture of my initial planning. I worked with an art specialist in my district for some input on material and methods for doing this project with third through fifth graders (ages 8-11). She gave me some good suggestions for materials to use and ways to achieve my final goal.
I've never attempted a project like this before. I sketched out what the board with the LED lights might look like. This would be the back of the art work. I wonder if I could also add a sound piece to it so that the lights would twinkle and you could hear crickets chirp?
Here are a few more samples for additional inspiration!
