Week 2 : Computer-Aided Design

CAD - (computer-aided design) software is used by architects, engineers, drafters, artists, and others to create precision drawings or technical illustrations. CAD software can be used to create two-dimensional (2-D) drawings or three-dimensional (3-D) models.

Assignment :

1) model (draw, render, animate, simulate, ...) a possible final project, and post it on your class page

During my young days when I was schooling, one of my favourite things to do, is using CAD software to create 2D or 3D drawings. After a long period of time, I am back to use Autocad to do my drawings again and recently trying out Autodesk inventor. I tried drawing my final project, Astromech in 2D and 3D using Autodesk Inventor and the drawings came out awesome. I am proud of myself. Haahaahaa...!!!

Below is a screen shot of my prototype done using Autodesk Inventor.

After Week 2 lesson, I was introduced to a lot of drawing software which I have tried a few of them. One of them was Inkscape, it is quite interesting, trying out new drawing software. I find it quite similar to Autocad, I will consider using Inkscape if I have any 2D drawings to do in the future.

Below is a screen shot of me, using Inkscape to create a picture that I found online and tried to copy the picture (CUTE).

I also downloaded QCad to try it out. I don't really like it because I found it really troublesome. Once I selected the icon, it came out a lot of stuff and I can't really understand what is it about. I try playing around with it but I don't find it friendly user.

This software that I have tried is really interesting and I will consider using it again. Introducing 123D Design, 3S which is simple to use, straight forward commands and stylish parts and background. The minute I started using it, I was in love with it. Great design software...!!!

Below is a screen shot (top), I drew something like a starwar space fighter using 123D Design and the screen shot (bottom), I drew my Astromech using 123D Design. Super Awesome Drawings...!!!

I have been trying out all these drawing softwares and I found out that there are so many drawing softwares in the market. I am impressed with all these and thanks to Neil for introducing me.

Nowadays due to using Laser Cutter which is interlink with a drawing software by the name of Corel Draw. I have been using Corel Draw to do simple drawings for me to cut simple shape out from Laser Cutter. I will be using Corel Draw to create my project for Week 3 assignment.
