W1 principles and practices

W1. An idea or a lot of ideas for my final project…

MOVING BY SOUND
and the design of a Web page

W1. Assignment:  design a web page and present a possible final project.

tutorial 5I used WordPress to design and upload my webpage. It is a very simple tool, ideal for those beginners in web design, so it was easy to develop a platform that will help me share information about the assignments for my project. It is built inside the FabLabMonterrey web page, where a submenu of Fab Academy2015 was opened so everyone of the staff will have their own page. Mine is under “Ana Karyna Gómez”.

Tutorial:

I am using WordPress 4.1 with a basic template. Opened a page and start working in the design. I inserted an image and set vertical tabs from shortcodes to have an information menu:  I named the tab 1 as  about me” and the tab 2 as contact so the information could be a little more organized. I fill content of the tab with the information. Tabs ended.

For the assignments I inserted a plug in with a waving theme instruction in order to have openings and links to each assignment, the go from 1 to 19 and each one has a link to a portafolio.

In the wordpress menu a portfolio entree was opened for each assignment with a number image for the background and the title of the subject.

At the end I saved the page with html format.

For references I visit the following links. I think could be useful for those looking for to design a basic web page.

Practice with mercurial…

This activity is really hard if you only know the basis of coding, as my self. But, I will keep trying with practice.

FINAL PROYECT

I have a few ideas for my final project… it has been difficult to decide what to do but for sure I would like to work with sound sensors.

Here are some of the ideas:

  • Architectonic structure that sense the sounds (noise)  of the room and moves (up, down, and sides) to improve the acoustic environment. Depending on the activity a flexible area could be divided with a movible structure-courtain or wall- and this architectonic element will be designed not only to divide but also to isolate from view and noise. image reference plisee origamic bamboo wall designed by Mary-Ann Williams (Germany) and wood panel by formation.com.au

bamboo, textil or wood panel+ sense + programming control… and produces movement to reduce noise.

  • An element -not necessary a wall or panel-  that could be place in an area, this element could be used to reduce noise. I am inspired in the project of students of the Studio course 2628 climator. They worked in a acoustic panel that moves as needed in order to reduce or amplify sound. Reference:  http://2628climator.hyperbody.nl/index.php/project06:Frontpage

Hopefully I will have a final idea by next week, I keep working in these ideas to ensure an innovative project.

Schedule fases:

  1. Define the project (urgent for week 2)
  2. Research for materiales and define budget (week 2 and 3)
  3. Design the element (wall, structure, panel…) (from week 2 ….)
  4. Experiment with programming and coding
  5. Build electronic devises and structure
  6. Build the object
  7. Final Project
