w14. Mechanical design, machine design
make a machine and automate it
This project is a team work. I will show my work first and at the end our scanny 0.0 machine (team work). The “scanny0.0” is a machine that brings support to the 3d scanning process by controlling the 2+1 axis movement.
Most of the decisions regarding this machine were made as a team but all of us collaborate also as an individual. At the end the project scanny0.0 is a collaboration of all, Rafa and Patricio worked in the structure, Daniela, Fernando and myself in the objective of the machine and the programming and control of the device.
For this project my individual collaboration was the preparation of the fabnet for cutting process and the programming (several attemts with the gestalt nodes)
I used the fab net suggested by Fab in a Box (shown in the following link). I prepare the fabnet files to use in the SRM-20 Roland: routes.
After the assembly of the structure of the machine by my teammates I prepare one of many efforts to program the nodes.
I follow the instructions for the gestalt nodes kit supplied by the Fab Foundation (3 stepper motors, rails, ftdi cable and the nodes). I connected the nodes at a 12v power supply by the fabnet and the ftdi.
I tried to programm the nodes by writing the code at the terminal. First I change directory uploading the pygestalt-master folder with the command cd
then I follow instructions:
- sudo python ./setpu.py install
- ls /dev/tty.usb*
- changing the port name
- uploading the htmaa folder
- python single_node.py
I follow the instructions in several occasions, I change the ftdi (unsolding and solding again), review the error in line 69 (when using terminal), use windows and mac and all the suggestions other students made but it did not work. The error was always “identationError: unexpected indent”.
After the frustrating attempts we decided as a team that it was time to use other drivers. After all the process that was follow by the rest of the team we have the following.
The result:
