Homework
Our homework was to develop a plan for dissemination of my final project. The BEST way for me to share my final project is for people to see it right HERE, in the FAB Academy archive.

Ready, Fire, Aim
  • I knew that I wanted to make something for kids since I'm a teacher, and early on in the semester, I thought it would have to do with art. I struggled for many many weeks on what to change to, since I learned that I couldn't work on my art idea with a partner. My ideas moved towards games for kids, and finally into racing because that is something we'll use at our new STEM school often. Kids LOVE to race.....boats, cars, bugs....you name it! I started to go with the race timer idea a month or so into the class, continued planning and researching, and decided to worry about all of the final touches later....So I'm firing and I'll worry about aiming later.

  • Copyright
  • This is the route I'd go per Neil's advice..."Copyrights are for creative works, are easy to get, and have personal value".
  • I will use the MIT permission model:
    # Neil Gershenfeld # 11/11/10 # # (c) Massachusetts Institute of Technology 2010 # Permission granted for experimental and personal use; # license for commercial sale available from MIT.
    (c) Gail E. Myers 2015 Permission granted for experimental and personal use. License for commercial sale available from Gail E. Myers

  • Patent vs. Impact
  • My intention for my final project is to impact the world, particularly the small world of the Willoughby-Eastlake School of Innovation. I want to share what I've learned to make with my students and inspire them to make cool things, too. I have NO intention of seeking a patent on my Race Start/Finish, but who knows? I'm never closed off to any idea!
