This week's assignment was to create a 3D print of something that utlizied the strength of what the 3D printer can do. I started to think of locking forms, or things that printed already assembled. I drew out of few sketches of what this would look like and began playing around with 3D modeling.
For the past few assignments, I had been teaching myself Sketchup, but didn't feel like I had much control over the object. I began looking into other programs and starting working with OpenSCAD. Shawn encouraged me to not just use a file that I found online, but instead build my own. He taught me how to create a module in OpenSCAD and I used that to create a crater. I then covered a sphere shape in those craters and made a two part mold of the form.
I also learned how to use the Sense to scan in objects. Included is a photo of myself, but I also scanned one of my classmates at AS220 as well as some objects from the Printshop. I found it challenging to document small objects but people seemed to work really well.
