The idea was to give simple packaging forms and patterns with which users can actually interact. Through the combination of geometrical, patterns, folding properties, the cardboard "box" becomes a new object.
_HOW TO..
The first thing was drawing the molds to send the archive to the laser cutting machine. As I was using a pattern containing dashed lines, the first trial was in Autocad, but Rhino didn´t read the dashed properties I had used for the lines. So after some tests, I directly draw it in Rhino, created two different layers and send it to Adobe Ilustrator to trace each dash to an object.
_FIRST ATTEMPTS
The first attempts to fold the cardboard failed due to the fact that the pattern scale wasn´t compatible with the thickness of the material(3mm cardboard). Tried different types or cardboard and scales, but the pattern would just simply break.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Cutting dash lines: Draw continuos lines in Rhino, create a new layer and give it the dashed property. Take it to Adobe Ilustrator and trace every lines so each dash becomes a single line.
