How to Make Almost Anything...

Final Project

Designing and Assembling the Tank

One of the most important parts of the aquarium is the tank, depending on the type of fish or plants that we want to have, we adapt the size and shape. In my case I want to make a small marine aquarium have small fish, crustaceans and some small anemone, this does not require having a very large aquarium, although it requires a very good control of water quality.

Tank design

For the construction of the tank I opted for the use of glass, the acrylic is very expensive and difficult to work it, for these reasons I decided to use glass.

The tank will measure 500x400x400mm, it makes over 80 liters of water. Glass thickness is 6mm, this is something that should be taken into consideration when cutting the crystals because they must fit each other perfectly. The order in which they are assembled also matters.

Glass Position

This order will determine the size of the glass, I'll take the front glass as reference, with a measure of 500x400mm so I have to subtract to the rest of glass the thickness of the glass and silicone (2mm silicon thickness)

Tank assembly

For assembly the tank, I used silicone and masking tape to temporarily hold the glasses, In the following pictures you can see the assembly process.
