@ Fab Lab Wgtn, New Zealand
About me
Kia ora, I am Bridget from Christchurch, New Zealand. I was introduced to Fab Labs at the Fab8 conference. I am taking part in Fab academy 2015 through Fab Lab Wellington.
I was part of the team who founded the Makercrate in 2012, which has become the Fab Lab XCHC, established as a community Fab Lab to support local design and education initiatives as the post quake rebuild progresses. I also run a social enterprise at the FabLab which aims to offer free educational programmes to the community through schools and libraries.
Our first project the Makercrate, was a 20ft shipping container located near the Pallet Pavilion, which offered digital fabrication services to post earthquake Christchurch. This venture was so popular with the local community we secured funds to create a more permanent space.
My background is in web, graphic and product design, with a specific interest is in textile design, and where craft culture meets digital. I have many years experience with electronics and robotics through tinkering and running workshops for children and adults on digital fabrication, eTextiles, and character design. paragraph link
