Week 3 : Electronics production (Feb
18) 1. Vimeo Links : One, Two 2. Tryouts A. 2D Design (Inkscape) : downloaded Inkscape and Xquartz to launch Inkscape. Tried to draw a pcb like image and draw 3D Boxes. ![]() ![]() B. 3D Design (Antimony) : Continued trying out Antimony. Git Cloned the 3D model nodes to have torus and multiple models. Tried on the exercise that professor Gershenfeld did during the lecture. ![]() 3. Assignment A. Make something that makes something : Inspired by the MTM(machine that makes machine) stages, I wanted to replace the two beams(aluminum here, numbered 1) with the cardboard. MTM snap gave an similar idea that simply interlocks two parts. I will call it a MTM X-Beam(the beam creates the letter X, and also two X's are used at the end of the lock). Here I used only cardboard to make it. However, if the nylon bearing fits in-between stages and the beams it will decrease the friction. ![]() B. Here is the test. The radius of the circlular shape at the end is 15mm and the radius of the arc is tested with multiple values. ![]() ![]() ![]() C. Here is the second version. There was a difficulty as the type of the cardboard is changed. The white cardboard needed more power and slower laser move. As the cardboard showed the weakness at the X interlock, the improvement came at the final. ![]() ![]() ![]() D. Here is the final version. Because the X-shaped cut was weak, the circular strut placed at the center of the X shape. Finally the MTM stage beams are replaced with the MTM X-beams. The joints of the beams are fixed well with the stages. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
