Week 1 : Principles and practices,
project management (Jan 28) 1. Vimeo Links : One, Two 2. Notes : Analogies of the FABLAB - PC: Huge Computers :: Fab Lab : Manufacturing Facilities - Internet : iphone :: Manufacturing Technology : Fab Lab Professor Neil Gershenfeld used many comparisions to explain the Fab Lab. As he discussed the history of the personal PC's and iphone, we can predict the future of the Fab Lab as time goes and the speed of the industrial revolution. 3. Future Industrial Revolution Predict: - App : App store :: Personal Fabrication : Industry (Market) - App : Program Language :: Personal Fabrication : Fabrication Coding The Future that we predict is well shown at the analogies above. We can see the Industry developed after the birth of the App store, so we can predict individual's mechanical development can co-work with the traditional industry and open the new industry (market). Just like the App developed based on the programming languages, we can predict the personal fabrication can be widely done by the fabrication coding. We can already see the emergence of the fabrication coding like Grab CAD, Antimony. 4. Conclusion We can see what the Center for Bits and Atoms are heading for the future. There are machines and softwares for the rapid prototyping. Also it is mocking Biology, as cells and proteins are universally and widely used in one organisms but functioning differently. 5.
