Computer Controlled Machining

For this assignment I decided to make a little stool for kids.

I have seen the design below on the internet and liked it a lot. I simplified it and drew it in Rhino.

The design is a press fit construction and I felt confident I could make it as I had already made one in a previous assignment. The slots are a tiny bit narrower than the male part but this prove to be not necessary.

For some reason it was perfect for the legs to fit together but when I tried to fit the seat it was very hard to do so and needed a lot of force.

File: stl file with the 3 objects being nested in order not to waste too much material
Material: 18mm plywood 2400 x 1220mm
Tools: 3mm compression spiral tool for the inner cuts and 6mm compression spiral for the outline.
For the latter I had to use the 3mm tool tip first and then change it to the 6mm. For this, two sepsrate files were needed.

Here it is in context. I am rather pleased with the outcome.

The drawing can be found here.
