Printing ~
We have a 3D Up! printer @ Fab Lab DC. The printer uses ABS plastic.
For my initial print, I downloaded a Small Box with Lid .stl file from Thingaverse, opened it, auto-placed it using the 3D Up! software, and rescaled it (as tooth fairy box for my niece).
And, per her instructions, I modified Anna's parametrically modelled ring, explained in theC/OpenSCAD chapter from her book, "Getting Started with MakerBot."
The 3D Up! created a considerable amount of support material, which had to be cut off, leaving the ring looking rough in spots.
Lastly, I printed my seashell scan:
The print was not completed due to a broken ABS feeder part on the 3D Up! Fixing it now....
Printer fixed :). Here are the prints of my scanned object (seashell), one small, one to scale, alongside the original:
