My project mechanical design deal with the doll movements.
I wished to keep the textile characteristics, without involving any hard materials, my goal was that the moment will be a result of a soft construction.
The solution was dividing each doll into parts, and sewing motor body into one part while motor wings were sewn to the other part.
For example:The dog was made out of three different parts-
Head – include motor wings
Body- include 2 motor bodies- (one in the neck for the head movement second in the bottom for the tail movement)
Tail- motor wings
There is an overlap in the neck part which enable the movement
This video demonstrate the sewing of the wings in the dog's head:
Sewn together it looked like that:
the human character was done by two parts:
Body- include one motor on its neck
Head-include motor wings.
The connection to the body (covered by the red scarf):
The different parts weren’t sewn to each other, they connected only for the motor parts and that way they connected as one figure, that can move
This method forced me to sew first the wings to the heads and then the motors to the bodies.
At the bottom of the necks in the body parts I left a small hall for the motor cabels.
Actually this solution was not perfect and I had to unpick the stitches few times till I got the movement I wished to each of them.
It would have been better if I sewed (could be created by 3d printing or laser cut) in advanced a small little cases, pockets for the motor bodies, which enable placing the motors in the doll bodies in more elegant and neat way. It would improve doll's movement as well.
