During my work as an artist and doll maker, I have developed a unique technique, to design and create 3D objects out of textile leftovers strips of fabric (every seamstress workshop has sacks of them by the end of every day).
The principal of this technique is very simple- wrapping those strips on the top of each other, till you get the shape you wish.
Here you can see a short documentation of making them:
At first I made only balls,
And used them as marionette heads,
But as time went by I have learned to create other shapes as well:
During the years using this technique I have created vast variety of characters:
I taught my young students to use this technique as well:
With the kids sometimes we had fun using those shapes as Sports Accessories:
For my final project I would like to build a computer controlled machine/printer that can take graphic file and translate them into wrapped textile objects, like thoe I create by my hands.
I wishe to create a machine that can take graphic files and translate them into 3d textile objects.
I wish that this machine will use the same leftovers fabric bands, (which come in vast variety of width, lengths , and fabric types).
Till the machine will be done I still use my hands to create those objects:
