Design

I design and a unfolded geometry of a Golden Rhombohedra.

The size of the rhombus is 5cm per side

Molding

To make the piece I used the laser cutter (epilog). The values ??for cutting and engraving were:

Cut: 40, 50 (speed, power)

Engrave: 60, 25 (speed, power)

Materials:

Polypropylene - 2mm thickness

Unions:

Test 1 - I used contact adhesive

Test 2 - Soldering

Test 1-Plastic resine

For the first test I used the "Smooth Cast 300 Series" of liquid plastics resine. This material is composed of two components and the proportions of the mixture are 1 to 1.

I had two problems with this test:

1 - The contact adhesive joints were not good enough and the material was very liquid, so that the mold could not contain the material.

2 - The material used caused an exothermic reaction that swelled the mold.

The result was not very good and I had to find other materials to make the object.

Test 2-Plaster

For the second test I used the "Hydro stone super X" plaster. This material must be mixed with proportions of 22 to 100 (by weight), 22 of water per 100 of plaster.

For this second attempt to improve the system of joints with a welder, and the material used was more dense.
The curing time needed by this product is about 2 hours.
