Week 15: Wildcard Week

Design and produce something with a digital process not covered in another assignment, documenting the requirements that your assignment meets, and including everything necessary to reproduce it.

Designing a logo to sublimate in mug

I think it is a week that is the most fun since at the Fab Lab Pasco we have a sublimator, a mug to sublimate, the sheet and the printer with special ink, so let’s get to work.

We designed our Fab Academy and Fab Lab Peru logo in Corel Draw and then we will sublimate it on a mug. For that, we have to make a rectangle measuring 21 cm x 9 cm.

With the spline tool we start designing the logos

We are increasing the photography of the stone forest of Huayllay the alpaca and finishing the logo of Fab Lab Perú

We add color to it with the color palette and our work turns out great

With the reflect tool we give it a twist since when sublimating the impression it has to be with the opposite image

We replicate on an A4 sheet since we have enough designs for 3 cups and when exporting we do it in .jpg format and color mode we give CMK

We print our work on a special paper for sublimation, it is similar to a bond sheet but behind it there are several red dots, the printer we use is an Epson L1250 and the ink is special for sublimation.

The materials to start sublimating are to have a 10 ounce mug, the printed paper for sublimation and the special contact tape to withstand 200º Celsius.

We begin to cover the cup with paper and stick the contact tape to the ends so that it has more adhesion.

We turn on the Subliflex Sublimator and connect the mug sublimator to the main screen

We verify that in the degree Celsius option it has to go up to 200º Celsius to put the cup, we adjust the rate with the lever and press the counter (red button) where it starts to beep when the 4 minutes of heat ends where the heat is sublimated. cup

Location of the cup in the middle of the sublimator

Keep in mind the table of temperatures and times to configure the sublimator

At the time of taking out the cup when the established time has passed, we take it out with a glove since it is hot and we let it rest for 10 minutes to cool down and then we just take out the leaf and it would give the logos this elegant

Learned

  • You have to have a lot of patience for the designs if we want them to turn out pretty.
  • The sublimate mugs and papers are special, they are not similar to what we have.

To take into account

  • Before printing your design, reflect it.
  • When printing, the design must be printed on the white part.
  • Remove the mug once sublimated with gloves since the object has a temperature of 200º Celsius.
  • Put the cup in when the temperature has reached 200º Celsius.
  • When exporting, put it in .jpg format and export it in CMK
