1. Principles and practices

This week, I started to research and make a sketch of a potential final project. I was also introduced to the documentation process!

Plan and sketch a potential final project

Research

I came up with 2 different ideas for the final project (the sketches of the initial designs are added below in the Gallery section); one idea that I had was to create a project in which a camera sensor could detect a difference in angle of a dog’s legs when walking to detect patella luxation. However, I realized that the code for the camera sensor would be extremely complicated and that the detection may not be accurate due to angles changing for reasons other than patella luxation as well. Therefore, another plan that I had for the final project was creating a medicine/pill box. There would be 1 box for every day of the week, and there would be a sensor on each of the boxes; on the side of the product, there would be an alarm, a monitor (to set up the time), and a button to set up the time of the alarm. The sensor would detect whether the pill box for the day was opened or not before/on the time assigned by the user; if it was not opened, then this would mean that the user did not or forgot to take the medicine, and the alarm would activate to remind the user. Through research, I found out that although taking medicine is a fundamental process, many people, even those who have vital medications (not just taking vitamins but taking necessary medications), forget to take their medicine on time or forget to take them due to their busy schedule. Therefore, I thought that this product would be able to make lives efficient and healthier! - Amazon As linked above, the product that I had designed was already being sold in the market :( Therefore, I decided to incorporate an additional feature that would differentiate my project. To the original alarm-medicine box, there would be a storage for medicine which would dispense the pills appropriately to the boxes when the user takes the medication and empties the box. The same sensor used for the alarm would be used, as opening the box would mean that the medication was taken. The sketch can be seen below.
