WEEk 2: COMPUTER-AIDED DESIGN.

THIS WEEK ASSIGNMENT

To get fimiliar with computer-Aided designing softwares which also contain various parts like
"Raster, Vector, 2D, 3D".
To Select 2-3 different Softwere which will make to help our Final Project.

2_DIMENSIONAL DESIGING

A two-dimensional shape can be described in geometry as a flat plane figure or a shape
with two dimensions x-axis and y-axis.
There is no thickness for two-dimensional or 2-D shapes
it can be determined on just two faces or we can say 2 Dimensions.

it can be determined on just two faces/2 Dimensions X-axis and Y-axis.

There are 2 different forms of 2D modelling that are commonly used in the field.
1. Raster
2. Vector

RASTER GRAPHICS

Bitmaps are Raster Graphics. A bitmap is a grid of individual pixels composing an image collectively.
Raster graphics render images of countless tiny squares as a series.
Each square is encoded in a particular hue or shade, or pixel.
As we can say that these pixels are useless individually.

As we can see that pixels are broken so shows the raster.

VECTOR GRAPHICS

The artwork of vectors is art made up of vector graphics.
These graphics, focused on mathematical formulas, points, lines, curves and shapes.
It's not low resolution when you scale a vector image file and there is no loss of quality
so it can be scaled to be as big or small as you need it to be.

So, this image is the vector graphics.

RASTER VS VECTOR

These are two major comperison between Vector and Rastor Grapics.

comperison between Vector and Rastor Grapics.

2D SOFTWERE WHICH I USED

1.GIMP
2.INKSCAPE

THE GIMP

This is the logo of Gimp.

I downloaded the gimp to use it for Raster Graphics. This link is for windows user to download the gimp from. here

It was very easy to install, After instalation when I opened it was looking like this.

There were some settings for image template and size.

I randomly downloaded the pic from the google chrome and opend in the GIMP.

I used free select tool and pic the scissors and I cuted the man into the Pimp.

I copied and pasted the man in the another page with different background It was looking like this.

Here, i learnt to use the gimp software. I used pink background in this image.

MICROSOFT PAINT

Microsoft Paint (Paintbrush, for MacOS users) is a simple raster graphics editor that has been included with all versions of Microsoft Windows. The program opens and saves files in Windows bitmap (BMP), JPEG, GIF, PNG, and single-page TIFF formats.

Open the microsoft paint and resize it with your requirment.

pick the color then click on rectangle box and draw it.

Here, I draw another rectangle inside the rectangle with differnt size and color. I tried to draw the shape of Electric Socket.

Another rectangle which shows the Button.

for my project I needed 2 buttons and two socket. I used the text for indicating the buttons and sockets.

INKSCAPE

Inkscape is a free and open-source vector graphics editor used to create vector images, primarily in Scalable Vector Graphics format. Other formats can be imported and exported. Inkscape can render primitive vector shapes and text. I tried to learn the different tools in the inkscape. it was my first time to learn the inkscape. I watched to many tutorials on youtube and follow to do the same steps just to do overall usage these tutorials are very usefull for biggners link is here

First of all open the inscape and select the A4 page size. click on file then select document properties then select the required page size.

Select the circle/Ellipse/Arc tool then draw any shape just to learn how to draw the shape.

First I selected the reactangle and then I used spiral tool.

I draw different shapes and Learnt to use the stroke and colors.

here, I wrote my name using text tool and then added some shapes with different colors just to learn the inkscape.

Draw rectangle inside the rectangle then increase the stroke to observe the result of stroke.

3D DESIGING

There are two types of software or work flow of 3D desiging.
1. Non Parametric 3D softwares.
2. Parametric 3D software.
There are also software in which we can work on parametric as well as non parametric 3D designing.

NON-PARAMETRIC 3D DESIGNING

Nonparametric modelling involves a direct approach to building 3D models without having to work with provided parameters. Therefore, you will not be required to start with a 2D draft and produce a 3D model by adding different entities. This means you directly model your ideas without working with pre-set constraints. That is also why nonparametric modelling is also known as direct modelling.

SKETCHUP

SketchUp is a 3D modeling computer program for a wide range of drawing applications such as architectural, interior design, landscape architecture, civil and mechanical engineering, film and video game design. It is available as a web-based application, SketchUp Free, and a paid version with additional functionality.

After installation of sketchup when we open it. sketchup screen will look like this.

I am very new to this software. So I decide to make very simple 3D design in SketchUp. I want to make rectangle box with two button and two socket. I draw small rectangle with the measument of sockets and button. In the bottom right corner, dimension box is avaible.

Here, I made the circles and sketched some lines in buttons for perfect measurement.

After removing of extra lines final Extension Board sketch is looking like this.

PARAMETRIC 3D DESIGNING

Parametric design is a process based on algorithmic thinking that enables the expression of parameters and rules that, together, define, encode and clarify the relationship between design intent and design response. There are many parametric software but i like to use Solid works.

SOLID WORKS

SolidWorks is a solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) computer program published by Dassault Systèms, that runs primarily on Microsoft Windows. While it is possible to run SolidWorks on an Intel-based Mac with Windows installed, the application's developer recommends against this.

click on file and select the new and chose the part to draw the any shape.

Here, we chose single parts of the 3d diagram. We mate the parts in Aseemly for final product.

Then, for the sketch view, choose a plane.

I draw a random diagram using sketch tool (rectangle, line, curve, and circle) then gave the desired dimensions.

After that Extrude Bose with the required thickness. Basically, it totally depends on thickness of material.

Draw a circle with required radius in the sketch for using Extrude cut command.

This is final look of 3D diagram which I draw and learnt some tools in the solid work.

PARAMATRIC DESIGN FOR FINAL PROJECT

Make an rectangle with parametric design and feature boss/base with paramateric equation.

Click on mirror then select the lines which you want to mirror, click on about mirror with center line.

Make the slits with parametric equation "Length/10".

This is the backside of my final project design.

TOP & BOTTOM SIDES OF DEISGN

This is the parametric design of top and bottom side for closing the rectangle box and mirror the lines.

Now extrude boss the design with the global variable "thickness of material".

DC MOTOR

for dc motor select the circle and extrude boss with your required size.

Select the shaft size according to your requirement.

These are two terminals for "+ & - connections"

LED STRIP

Strip shows some leds which will be attached like this on led PCB circuit.

ASSEMBLY

Here, in Assembly I mated the parts to gather with realtime graphics which shows the design will look like same.

Dc motor is attached with led PCB circuit and this is the whole Design and It may change.
