About Me

Harley Lara

My name is Harley Lara I am 23 years old, I am from a beautiful country called Nicaragua, land of lakes and volcanoes. I study mechatronics engineering and control systems at the Universidad Tecnológica La Salle in León Nicaragua.

I am currently in Germany on an exchange program at the Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences in the faculty of Communication and Environment in the Environment and energy program.

I enjoy the process of creating and learning and at the same time sharing the learning process with others.

I am taking the Fab Academy because I was inspired by the previous year (2020) in which I audited some sessions. Also the fact that I am able to take the Fab Academy is thanks to a great group of people who believe in me and I am very grateful to them.

  • Intern at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences in the development of projects for the new environmentally focused digital fabrication lab Green FabLab. Project developer for the IoT lab at HSRW university.

Hobbies

My artistic side: I love music in its artistic form but also in its technical form, the mathematics that describe the harmonics of sound and its physical characteristics is simply fascinating, I am also a multi-instrumentalist and audio designer, sometimes I even compose from heavy rock to a piano ballad.

My technical side: I like to code (it also has its artistic side but you get the point.) and design, I work with wheeled robots and on navigation and perception systems for autonomous navigation.

The Fab Academy is responsible for:
  • Teaching principles and practices of digital fabrication
  • Teaching principles and practices of digital fabrication
  • Arranging lectures, recitations, meetings, and events for the class
  • Evaluating and providing feedback on student work
  • Offering clear standards for completing assignments
  • Certifying and archiving student progress
  • Supervising class preparation
  • Reviewing prospective students, instructors, and labs
  • Providing central staff and infrastructure for students, instructors, and labs
  • Fund-raising for costs not covered by student tuition
  • Managing and reporting on the program's finances, results, and impacts
  • Publicizing the program
  • Promoting a respectful environment free of harassment and discrimination
I am a Fab Academy student, responsible for:
  • Attending class lectures and participating in reviews
  • Developing and documenting projects assigned to introduce and demonstrate skills
  • Honestly reporting on my work, and appropriately attributing the work of others
  • Working safely
  • Leaving workspaces in the same (or better) condition than I found them
  • Participating in the upkeep of my lab
  • Ensuring that my tuition to cover local and central class costs is covered
  • Following locally applicable health and safety guidance
  • Promoting a respectful environment free of harassment and discrimination
