Hi, my name is Maro, and I'm a geek. (don't tell anyone! ;) )
The first time I set foot in a Fab Lab was in 2013 in Urbana-Champaign, when I visited the local Fab Lab to engrave the initials of my now-husband on an RFID blocking wallet I had just bought. The outer layer was made of a matte steel, which proved impossible to do laser engraving on. I ended up engraving the initials on a card that was then inserted in the wallet.
Since then, I worked as an engineer doing CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), my toys of trade being ANSYS CFX and later Fluent. For modeling, I used ANSYS DesignModeler until SpaceClaim took the stage. Which is why I'm happy and very excited to play with a free (both libre and gratis) modeling software such as FreeCAD.
When I finally went on maternity leave, the opportunity to take a Fab Academy course presented itself, and I'm happy to be here and learn all I can, and get to meet the interesting crowd behind and concurrent with this project.
Fab Lab Dilijan is located in the forested town of Dilijan in the Tavush marz (province) of Armenia, itself located amongst Dilijan National Forest. The town is reknowned as a spa-town and has a mild climate all year round. There are some hiking and picknicking opportunities around town, and with a population of 18,000, it boasts some millenium-old monestaries (commonplace in Armenia), couple museums, and a new Rope Park to tap into one's natural climbing instincts.
Fab Lab Dilijan was opened in Dilijan Central School by Ayb in 2015 together with its Yerevan Fab Lab (the first and only Fab Labs in Armenia so far), thanks to the sponsorship of Central Bank of Armenia and Vivacell-MTS. The Dilijan Fab Lab became part of the Fab Academy network with its first batch participating in the offered courses in 2019.
And the website for the Dilijan Fab Academy Team of 2021 is located here.
