I’m really excited to finally join Fab Academy, because this is my wish since I starter FabLab in 2013. There are several reasons to this excitement, I will try to describe in next few highlights from my life, and I hope you will connect the dots.

My background

Once upon a time in Zagreb…

Since I remember, I wanted to be an architect, probably because I was looking my father when I was 3-4 years old how he finishing diploma and graduate at Faculty of Architecture.

Playing with LEGO was one of the first things I did mainly building houses. When I was almost fresh teenager, I loved to disassemble new toys and build something new from that parts. Spending some times with grandfather, who was self educated innovator, I was invoved in various projects he was living from. Like my other grandfather, he was also person with disability, both limp all their life.

In the ’80s I got my first computer Commodore 64, so new digital era in my life started. Mostly doing some research of applications instead of playing, I switch to Cammodore 128, and then to when I enter Faculty of Architecture in 1986. In 1987, I maded CAD drawings and CAD drawings and 3D model in Autocad and give lecture to my professors about future of CAAD and computers in architecture.

After graduation, I was invited to stay at University and I was devoted to promote application of ICT in profession. I’m teaching students at Faculty of Architecture 3D modeling and computer visualization, recently also digital fabrication and discussing about other aspects of makers culture and social impact.

Previous work

Starting FabLab in 2013 had hugh impact on my current work, starting contribute on European projects and networking with similar people around Europe, and one of the first wad FabLab Barcelona and Tomas Diez, from which I was not only inspired but also learn a lot and try to replicate some of their projects and ideas in Croatia.

The FabLab Zagreb was partner on several EU and national projects, and work in four directions of development fields:

  1. Education (R)evolution - focused to education transformation using new ways of learning,

  2. Give a Hand - focused on community engagement with special focus on people with disabilities,

  3. Do Local Go Global - helping people with “crazy” ideas to find their way to enterpreneurship,

  4. Digital transformation - related to contrbiution on building new public policy on national and European level

This also lead us to bring City of Zagreb to Fab City Global Initiative in 2018, organize first featured Maker Faire Zagreb in 2019, helping City of Zadar to join Fab City in 2020, and starting Fab Academy node in Zagreb, and helping communities in other cities in Croatia to start FabLab stories.
