17. Wildcard week¶
For this Assigment my tutor proposed to me to make something like this, an ainflatable device he maded for the soft robotics week for the Fabricademy. I accepted.
First of all I designed the shapes in Rhino and exported in a DFX file
Vinyl dxf file downloadable here
Cooking paper dxf file downloadable here
After that I placed the vinyl on the vinyl cutter plastic board
I setted the cutting in the Silhouette software
I failed placing the plastic board into the machine and the cutting didn’t run ok. But I had no more vinyl so I had to do it anyway
I maded the same for the cooking paper.
Cutting setings¶
Vinyl¶

Speed 5
Force 12

Cooking paper¶
Knife 2
Speed 1
Force 5
Passes 1
The cooking paper between two vinyl pieces avoid them to get sticked when the contact with the hot iron.
My tutor helped me to notice that the superior void part in de cooking paper shape needed to be filled with paper to enable a air passage. I wanted to directly put a pipe before passing the iron and heat the part with the pipe embedded. But I took my tutor’s suggestion and I added a pieces of paper in that part.
After that I placed the cooking paper between the two vinyl shapes and I passed a hot iron onto it. (Here I forget to take pictures reference of the process)
Here I maked an error. I put the vynil piece in the wrong sense.
Despite this I had to make it because there was no more vinyl available. I rescued the part I didn’t ironed, I placed correctly the cooking paper and I did it again. This time I put a pen case into the hole I previewed for the air entering.
