13. Applications and implications

This week I worked on defining my final project idea and started to getting used to the documentation process.

PROJECT

Propose a final project masterpiece that integrates the range of units covered, answering:

a. What will it do?

It will help students understand that each specie has a specific habitat in a particular environment.

b. Who’s done what beforehand?

The idea arrived to me when i use an educational robot called Beebot, where kids use them to learn programming, but in this case with the addition for a specific science class. I checked up and haven't seen any related project.

Here some students enjoying with the interaction of a robot used in class. I used this idea to add something related to this robot, a science concept.

c. What will you design?

I will design:
- the animal robot,
- the electronic circuit and
- the MDF table to play with it.
The robot will be designed in Fusion 360 and will be 3D printed and acrylic
The circuit will be designed in Arduino and Easyeda or tinkercad if possible to test it before do it in Easyeda in order to print it.
The board or table will be designed in Illustator and then engraved and cutted in a laser cutter.

d. What materials and components will be used? Materials to be use:

 - 3D Printer and PLA Filament to print the robot
 - Tinkercad circuits, easyeda, Fabmodules to design the circuit.
 - Milling machine to print the circuit
 - Laser cutter to cut the board.

ELECTRONICS USED IN THE CIRCUIT

MACHINES MATERIALS ELECTRONICS
3D PRINTER 01 SPOOL PLA ATMEGA 328p
LASER CUTTER 02 PCB LED SMD 1206 RED
MILLING MACHINE MDF 01 Gear MOTOR
SOLDERING STATION CARDBOARD RESISTORS, and others

e. Where will come from?

 - Fab Lab UCAL LOCATED IN LIMA, PERU
 - Some components came from the Makerspace of my School.
 - Some elctronics from a store.

f. How much will they cost?

MATERIALS COST
01 SPOOL PLA $ 30.00
02 PCB $ 2.00
MDF $ 4.00
CARDBOARD $ 1.00
:------------------------------------:
ELECTRONICS COST
-------------------- :-------------:
ATTINY 44 $ 8.00
SENSOR RFID $ 15.00
LEDSMD1206 RED $ 0.50
RESISTORS $ 0.50
MINI ELEC MOTOR $15.00
--------------------------------------

g. What parts and systems will be made?

 01 Robot using PLA Filament.
01 Circuit board drilled in a Roland milling machine.
01 Template in the MDF 2" worked in a laser cutter machine.
Perhaps the complicated issue should be the components needed to be used in detecting whether a place is the one to be identified as true. Programming should be an issue to consider with the project.

h. What processes will be used?

 2D design
 3D design
 Electronic design
 Programming
 Milling
 3D printing

i. What questions need to be answered?

1. Does the animal robot identify its habitat?
2. Does the RFID card will be read by the reader if there is a 3 mmm thick board?

j. How will it be evaluated?

If the green LED turns on when the animal robot approaches at a distance of 10cm of its habitat, then that habitat belongs to the corresponding animal robot.

This project is intended for education purpose. The primary user is a student between 6 years old and 12 years old.
