Week10 Final Project Q&A¶
Who’s done what beforehand?¶
I found several beautiful bedside lamps from fabacademy archives. I like this one and this one very much.
What will you design? & What parts and systems will be made?¶
It will have following parts:
* A lamp for the bedside table.
A clock.
A slot with an end-stopper for your phone, it also has a phone charger.
* A rewarding wall with jigsaw pieces, each piece have an LED.
* A platform to hide the components.
The systems are:
* clock and alarm setting
* lamp with different color for different conditions
* speaker with different sounds for different conditions
* the phone slot has an end-stopper to detect whether the phone is in or not by weight (easy to cheat it, but it’s OK).
* Jigsaw pieces with leds, which will be turned on when put on the rewarding wall (connected to the copper foil)
What materials and components will be used?¶
-
The lamp
- Card paper and rice paper by vinyl cutter
- RGB LEDs
- The central part will be made by 3D printer
-
The clock (it is a part of the lamp)
- Card paper and rice paper
- OLED and 12 RGB LEDs
- 2~4 buttons
-
The platformer and the slot for phone
- Wood board by laser cutter
- end-stopper
- light sensor
- speaker
- chip, not sure which to use yet. Maybe ATmegaXXX or ESP32
- phone charger wire
- springs
-
The rewarding wall with jigsaw pieces
- Wood by laser cutter
- LEDs
- magnet
- copper foil
Will buy from taobao.com. Price not sure yet. No more than $80. 【TODO: add BOM here】
What processes will be used?¶
- computer-aided design
- 2D design for the surface of the lamp and the clock
- 3D design for the platform, the phone slot, and the rewarding wall
- Computer-controlled cutting
- vinylcutter for the surface of lamp and clock
- laser cutter for the platform and the rewarding wall
- 3D printing
- for the phone slot, the lamp seat, and the platform
- electronics production
- PCB design and milling
- copper foil with vinyl cutter
- soldering
- electronics design
- design the schema for the lamp, the clock, the platform and the rewarding wall
- input device
- end-stopper, light sensor, button
- output device
- LED, OLED, speaker (with DFPlayer)
- embedded programming
- the micro-controller programming for the lamp, the clock and the rewarding wall
- molding and casting
- not sure yet. Maybe will use molding for the phone slot
What questions need to be answered?¶
- Which chip to use?
- How to set the alarm for the clock? Not designed yet. It can be buttons and use code to handle the logic. But I would like to have approaches with more fun.
- How to have one LED in each jigsaw piece, and the lights can be turned on when they are connected? Need to deisng and prototype.
How will it be evaluated?¶
- Functional: if it works for different conditions?
- Fun: can I have fun with the jigsaw pieces?
- Beauty: is the lamp and clock looks nice?
Spiral Development and Time Schedule¶
