Home¶
Hello, this is Luca’s page! Welcome to my Fab Academy site¶
This is the homepage and Project page for my FabAcademy Course. Here you can find a little about me, my final project and summaries of FA lessons.
A little background¶
I was born on April 6th 1998 in Mantova, had my first computer as a gift for my 8th birthday and kept loving IT since then.
I’ve studied IT at IS Enrico Fermi MN and i’m currentrly enrolled in a CISCO CCNA course.
After some time of internship in a IT service company i worked at IS Fermi as a Tutor (from 11/2019 until 02/2020). I’ve also worked at MCL - Manto Circular Lab website during this time, using Wordpress and Elementor.
I’m a member of LUGMan (Linux User Group Mantova) where I yearly give a divulgative talk about a different subject related to Open Software/Hardware or IT security since 2016.
My project for FabAcademy¶
My final project will be a tool for making tabletop role-playing games (TRPGs) easier to approach for both new and experienced players.
Specifically i’ll be focusing on the physical version of this games, played with little figures of heroes and foes:
Let’s take a step back to reality and look at what is a TRPG. Short answer:
- Dungeons & Dragons (Wikipedia) (Official Page)
- Pathfinder (Wikipedia) (Official Page)
Explanation:
It’s that kind of game in which a story is narrated through the action of characters, in a set context. Players impersonate one character each, except one of the players who is the master and is the one responsible for the context building and is the “deus ex machina” of the situation, controlling enemies and every other character that is not under a player’s influence (Non-Playing Characters, NPC).
The most entertaining parts of this kind of games are two:
- Role-playing: being it oral or written, living the life of a fictional character
- Combat: fights, battles, wars, tavern brawls etc.
For players is relatively simple to track the action their characters are able to do, their weaknesses and abilities, every game has a character sheet which contains everything.
This is what a character sheet looks like:
For masters is different, players face a lot of different enemies and meet many different NPCs, travelling the world and the sevens seas, everybody is looking for something, some of them want to use the players, some of them can be used by them. To track everything masters use notes, pre-made monsters sheet and many other tools but keep track of everything might be difficult.
This is where i’d like to give some help, giving masters an instrument capable of storing info and references to quickly be able to arrange encounters. This tool can also be used by players, storing their character sheets in the same way NPCs are.
