6. 3D Scanning and printing

This week I worked on defining my final project idea and started to getting used to the documentation process.

Group Assignment

what is 3d printing ?

Additive Manufacturing is know by many names: 3D Printing, Rapid Prototyping, Rapid Tooling, Rapid Technologies, Rapid Manufacturing, Advanced Manufacturing, additive Fabrication, Additive Layer Manufacturing, Direct Digital Manufacturing and Direct Manufacturing.

The creation of a 3D printed object is achieved using additive processes. In an additive process an object is created by laying down successive layers of material until the object is created.

The digital 3D-model is saved in STL format and then sent to a 3D printer. The 3D printer then prints the design layer by layer and forms a real object

Many different materials can be used for 3D printing, such as ABS plastic, PLA, polyamide (nylon), glass filled polyamide, stereolithography materials (epoxy resins), silver, titanium, steel, wax, photopolymers and polycarbonate.

Characterize machine

As a leading manufacturer of industrial grade 3D printers, Raise3D is dedicated to pioneering flexible manufacturing, which helps our customers improve their competitive advantage through utilizing the benefits of Additive Manufacturing.

Individual Assignment

This is week I work with my final project

I design my Wind sensors

Wind is measured using an anemometer. Observator Instruments offers a wide range of wind sensor anemometers. They are all designed to be used within the hardest environmental conditions.

After I save the file us a STL .I use a software Cura to generate the G code of the 3D printer

prepare setting for printing

I generate a support

I click to start the machine wel caliberate the bad and the axcs

finally the machine finished after 10 hours

I removed the support to obtain my part

to dowland the STL file annometre

3D scanning

3D Laser Scanning is a non-contact, non-destructive technology that digitally captures the shape of physical objects using a line of laser light. 3D laser scanners create “point clouds” of data from the surface of an object. In other words, 3D laser scanning is a way to capture a physical object’s exact size and shape into the computer world as a digital 3-dimensional representation.

What is mesh in 3d scanner ?

To go from the separate points of a point cloud to a watertight 3D model made of surfaces, you need to mesh your scan. Meshing ‘connects the dots’, so to speak, of a point cloud, transforming it to a model.

I used Sense™ 3D Scanner to scan the chosen object (small castle)
