Carvey CNC Mills¶
In the Spring of 2021 all the prototype Carvey CNC mills were donated to UHS by Zach Kaplan, owner of Inventables. I have these mills in storage. My plan is to get them all running and usable. When that is accomplished I’d like to host a “History of the Carvey” party with the Carvey Mills on display and the designers and creators invited to check the machines out and maybe give talks on the history of these cool machines.
Carvey Zach¶
Carvey Zach was refurbished in 2022 at the Upside Hoarder Space (UHS) and then was purchased by the South Side Hackerspace: Chicago.
Carvey Zach and #7 Rebuilds¶
In Nov 2024 Carvey Zach experienced a smashed limit switch for a second time. The plan is to replace the mechanical limit switches with optical switches, so an over run of the axis cannot smash the switch. Actually limit switches with arms can be mounted so they don’t get smashed, but the way these switches are mounted doesn’t allow this.
Here are progress photos of the Zach and #7 Carveys being re-built and upgraded to optical limit switches. Here is a link to the optical end switches being used: UltiMachine Optical Endstop
