About Me

My name is Madison Kate Dunaway and I currently live in Boston, MA. I am taking FabAcademy at Dassault Systèmes and I also work at Wheaton College.

Where I started...

It all began when I found myself returning to a newly created makerspace during my sophomore year in college while pursuing a degree in Fine Arts. Believing technology, computers, and wirey things were not my friend, I shied away from the spooky machines. Soon after, her friends convinced me to try again and I found that it was actually pretty fascinating. Digital fabrication became my medium and my work found a voice. After graduating, I founded a digital fabrication fashion show at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte as a collaborative effort between the College of Arts and Architecture and Computing Informatics. I published my first paper with Johanna Okerlund and presented at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University at DIS. I was then recruited to lead one of Charlotte’s first community Makerspaces at Discovery Place Science. For a long time I have wanted to participate in FabAcademy and this scolarship enables my dream.

Some of our group

This is a photo of the lab at Lena Park Community Center. On the left is Greg, middle Martina, and right Zina. Pretty cool that these four people are doing this. Spencer and Luciano are missing.

Dassault

Before we left, we met at Dassault Systèmes which is how our group came about in the first place. Dassualt sponsors students every year to participate.
