Individual Assignment¶
This week, I worked on my plan for disseminating my final project. I decided that patents, trademarks, and most restrictive copyrights will not be applicable to my project. I am making my own version of Star War’s famous BB-8 Droid, and simply because it’s already been done before so many times. Even if they did not, I don’t have much interest in pursuing this as a business/trying to make a profit from it. I wouldn’t be opposed to the idea if I were making anything else, but I feel that it has been done so many times before that it is better to leave this project as open source, and let it contribute to the knowledge of all the people who have tried to create their own droids.
That being said, I decided I wanted it to be open source, but I still wanted to protect my ideas in this project. Hopefully my project can help contribute to the community of many people looking to build their own BB-8 Droid. For this reason, I decided I would file my project under a Creative Commons License. I have seen this copyright on many projects in the past, and I thought it best fit with my purpose for this project. I chose a (CC BY-SA 4.0) license, because it allows anyone to share and adapt the project, even commercially, but stipulates the terms that attribution must be given, and the person must distribute their contributions to the project under the same license. This is important to me because derivatives will also be added to the pool of BB-8 knowledge and I will also receive credit for my work. I also drafted a slide and video, which I will fill in with photos as my project is closer to being finished.
