10. Molding and casting¶
assignment group assignment: review the safety data sheets for each of your molding and casting materials, then make and compare test casts with each of them individual assignment: design a mold around the stock and tooling that you’ll be using, mill it (rough cut + (at least) three-axis finish cut), and use it to cast parts
Step 1: group assignment¶
Long documentation for the group assignment this week, which can be found here, on the group site .
Step 2: planning my molding¶
I have plan to mold a existing piece it is for a centrifugal honey extractor (the green parts of the picture)
I created the solidworks files and the cam
After that i have to mill the 2 pieces on the milling machine
add more pics
but its not working the plaster does not dry pu is not good (see the picture above)
I tried to do the mold with MDF and using epoxy
and using a mold realise agent
But when i mixed the 2 compenant nrormaly it is 100% of the bottle A first and 40% of the bottle B
I mixed 100% and 10% so it is not good the epoxy is not hard enough
So i redo the the mold but in a MDF i have had the realese agent
But as you can see the mdf absorb the epoxy and you cannot demold the piece
Lets try another methode i have changed my molding to do a mold in silicone(moldstar 16 fast) and after that molding my piece in epoxy.
change of plan i changed the desing using fusion 360
after that i milled with wax
and i used polyurethane resine to mold my pieces
Here you can see the risk and the precaution.
And normaly you have to mix the part A equaly To part B ratio 1/1
i have pour it to my mold.
and here the result
