4. Computer controlled cutting¶
compouter contrilled cutting is a way to trans 2D graphs as the solid material such as wood or pvc in a “puzzle” way.much physic way we can choice to cutting by computer such as laser, water knief,hot melt and so on.however, they have the same formate way to fabric.

the fabric format of laser is cutting material.so the most way is design puzzle and press-fit structure, otherwise, fiexable turbin is also be done as picture show
Characterize our Laser Cutting (Group work)¶
Software: illustrator(my version:tinkerCAD)
Materials: wood, 3mm MDF
Laser cutter: Universal VLS4.60(60W on 10.6um)(Cut setting: Speed 4%, , powerrate:100%,ppi:1000)

It’s exhaust system(Atomos) removes dust and gas and filters smell through its carbon filters.
First we conducted an experiment by design two piece of gate puzzle to understand the proper parameters for press-fit.
then our instructor,Ted teach us how to set our graph on computer by illustrator.
there is simple steps to set:
1.open praph on illustrator
2.set line as 0.01pix and in RGB color mode as any pure color
3.print to Universal control table
4.correction the z point of plate(some mechine should correct the nozzle)
5.reset the cornor of graph as the nozzle site.
Second,we cutting these puzzles:
wood thickness:3.0mm
the proper gate:2.9mm
that is the physic lose is 0.1mm%2=0.05mm
Laser Cut Press-Fit¶
software: Fusion360
I take refference of Daisuke Doyo’s site who is the member of Academy on 2018 he has much suscribe how to think the press-fit design on simple math georametry formule and generate parameters by Fusion360.
then i think about that “is there have any way to combine the way as puzzle and furniture?”then what’s i make:
even i want to learn how to design flexiable structure but i have no time and correspond skill to do this.
the final design is that, i scratch a trangle plate as base and open gap on each corner.by define the each variable like width,depth,and the radious of fillet. the design of puzzle would change because each line and angle was defined by constrains.
after opening the Fusion360 and setting the parameters
then change the value of correspond elements which have done or you can enter this parameter when doing each process
then if you see the scratch has change, it’s done lol.
after finished the fit gap on end point, it’s time to design the rotational fit on the center of triangle.the first is to scratch a circle and define rafious in parameter r then build the tree.
in my paint before, the two dimentional gap would design as two different size holes and use circular pattern as 4 to vertivcal on center.
the last step is rotate the smaller circle in 60’ degree and make it profit the depth of wood.
however,i make a mistake as following picture
i found that when Fusion360 export .dxf file to cut. illustrator couldn’t realize the currect size in original.we should set 1:1 to mm(not cm)
i combine my puzzle as a crown and then try to make a ball.
the difficlut part is deisgn the rotate latchs on the center of puzzle.
these latchs are design as that each puzzle could be pressfit on the first latch or the second one by rotating the puzzle on the latch tree.
flexable case¶
i do this tutorial by using Makercaseto deisgn an appropit box then download. next,i paste the pattern that illastrate on inkscape to make the both side is flexable.
Vinyl Cutting¶

i want to do a paper spiral which could haug out by sting then rotate when hwating by frame on below.
otherwise,i find out there is an folding spring joint which could origami by “just one paper”
so i try to make it by useing colony constrains to get this pattern and try to do i by gand made lol.
