CAD
-model (raster, vector, 2D, 3D, render, animate, simulate, ...) a possible final project, and post it on your class page.
Main software of the week:
- Free Cad
- OnShape
- Fusion
- OpenJscad
GIMP(2d)
With Gimp I resize and compress photo (2D)of every weeks. The main process, I do to resize and compress photos are visible in these screenshot:
- open Gimp.
- open a photo with Gimp.
- we resize the immagine choosing the resolution that we want.
- we export file changing format from png to jpg and rename the photo and choosing quality of the photo.
- finally we have our photo resized and compressed
I have installated Gimp (with the plugin Bimp) seeing this tutorial. The main process to install it are:
- install MacPorts
- Install prerequisites:
sudo port install coreutils pcre
-Add /opt/local/libexec/gnubin to your PATH to make them the GNU tools the default: PATH=/opt/local/libexec/gnubin:$PATH
-Install GIMP with MacPorts:
sudo port install gimp +quartz
-Follow the build and install instructions for Linux
- Look at the output for the install command. If your plug-in directory contains a space in its name (as would happen if it is in the Application Support folder), then there will be a copy command which failed listed. You will need to perform that copy command manually with the destination directory properly wrapped in quotes. I.e. if you see
cp ./bin/bimp /Users/NAME/Library/Application Support/GIMP/2.8/plug-ins
cp: target 'Support/GIMP/2.8/plug-ins' is not a directory
then you need to do :
cp ./bin/bimp "/Users/NAME/Library/Application Support/GIMP/2.8/plug-ins"
I am going to use pimp to organize the compression of the photos that I am going to use in the next lessons.
Free Cad (3d model)
With free cad, I want to model the structure of the machine(you can see the sketch in the week1). I have to create five object which are the five sites of the machine and finally allign them and build the whole rectangular structure. In Free Cad we must go to combo view and select task, create a body and then a sketch. we create our object with the use of the costrains and then we pad this sketch.
in order we can see the process for the creation of a object in free cad:
finally , i have every component of my final project: and i have to allign them and build my final structure. Unfortunately, with Free cad I have had some problem (crash of the system) with the allignement of the body so I decide to do the same project with an other programm in order to improve my experience with 3D modellation too.
OnShape
I find OnShape very easlier and more intuitive than FreeCad (but It's only my opinion).
In my shape there is a part assembly where I have done the allignement of stucture parts, and a part studio where I have my sketches and extrudes. I have done two project on OnShape:
In the first project, I have done the rectangular strucutr in this manner because it is done thinking an its practice building (with joint). In this screen , are visible the singol sketch before the assembly and the whole assembled structure:
.
In the second project I have model every part of structure (with the sloped plates inside it) but with an easy rappresentation.(non t particulary than the other project). Here below are visibe the part of second project (done by OnShape)in different view and the assembled structure in a side view:
in this link you can see my project in details.
OpenJscad
In OpenJscad I find an exemple of a file of a fire fun useful for my final project. I would build a similar fire-fun to put in the circular space that I have done on a side of the rectangular structure.
