During this week's class, Dr.Neil talked about intellectual property, licenses and copy rights. I have heard about these terms before but I have never dug deep into the meanings of these terms. Therefore, this week was a great opportunity for me to read more anput intellectual property and licenses.
Wikipedia defines a licensing as "an official permission or permit to do, use, or own something (as well as the document of that permission or permit)" and it applies to a huge variety of things.
Creative Commons (CC) is a non-profit organisation that helps make your work available to the public by providing you with different types of licenses that are also free. These licenses help you define what kind of permissiom you want to give to others who are planning to use your work and how can they use it.
There are six types of CC licenses provided and they differ based on the terms and conditions of how the work can be legally used. Some licenses allow others allow others to share, tweak and build on your work as long as they credit you as the creator of the original work which is convenient for most creators. On the other hand, some licenses are more strict and allow others to only download the original work and share it with credits to the creator but they can't change the work or use it for commercial purposes.
Personally, I'm not planning to get a license for my work especially the final project because it not something new. However, this week's assigment brought to my attention to carefully check the licenses of the works I'm using as a references for my project.
I think disseminating or spreading information nowadays is a lot easier becasue of the access we have to the different free platforms such as Facebook and the famous Instructubles which can help advertise your product or even share a detailed review and tutorial of your project with interested users.
I'm personally planninng to use Instagram because it has grown to be very popular during the past few years. Therefore, I will create an account that I can use as a blog to document the Fab Academy experience and the different processes I wen through and how it was all combined during the development of my project. I will update this page with the account username once I create.
Below are the my project's presentation slide and initial testing video. These are not 100% final as I'm still planning to improve them.
