Plumbing¶
During the first week of Fab Academy 2019 I had a plumbing project to tend to.
-
Description: Under the kitchen sink had been dripping and needed attention.
-
Planning: I took pictures and measured the faulty plumbing with my iPhone using the measure app.
-
Materials: The faulty plumbing was metal, but I purchased PVC replacement parts. I purchased what was needed from Ozark Salvage with the assistance of the owner.
-
Problems: The morning of the beginning of work, I discovered that I had a Center Outlet Continuous Waste kit, but I actually need an End Outlet Continuous Waste kit. However, I did get the proper P-trap kit. Additionally, I needed 2 more nuts for the repair, a major winter storm was upon us, and the store closed in 1 hour. Timing was tight :)
-
Corrections: The owner was very apologetic and helped me get the correct kit and threw in the extra nuts and washers that I needed.
-
Workflow: I preassembled the new parts to dry-fit the assembly and discover I was still 1 nut short. Due to the timing issue, I decided duct tape would be a temporary solution and decided to press on. As soon as I turned the nut for the metal P-trap, the trap shattered and the contents escaped :( The sink traps were so corroded that I had to file one and make an oversized rubber gasket for proper seating as well as use Teflon tape to seal the nut. It would have been nice to have a laser cutter on hand ;)
-
Success: The new plumbing was installed and the majority of the waste water made it to the septic tank. Although I fixed the leak under the right sink, due to the corrosion and temporary gasket, there is a small drip from the right sink :o

Next Step: Purchase the 2 Kitchen Sink Strainers and start the next side project
