18. Wildcard week¶
Individual assignment¶
This week i wanted to do something different , and i choose fo embroidery
I am going to work with Inkscape and with plugin called Inkstitch
I went to the Inkstitch website www.inkstitch.org
In the menu i went to the installation link, and followed the download link to github. And i downloaded the file i needed for a windows environment
I followed the install steps as described in the tutorial on Inkstitch.org
And i put the plugin folder into the install folder of Inkscape
After That i loaded my Probitas logo design into Inkscape and did a bit tracemap And removed the old file
And went to the Tab “extensions” and choose the Inkstitch plugin
When this is opened up, you will get the first Tab “Stroke” here you can configure several thing, all about the stiches.
In the preview screen you can see your result and then adjust some parameters Or if youre happy go save your file
When you save your file it wil have the PES extension this it the Brother embroidery format that the Brother machine uses. i choosed a folder and then saved it to an USB harddrive
After the design is done , i had to setup the machine, we used a Brother You can use it as an normal sewing machine
But i want to go embroider, so i have to make some changes. - the bed has to become bigger - there will be a special frame slide into the bed.
This is the end result and the machine is ready for embroidery
Next step is to get your cloth in my case a handkerchief ready into the special frame, there is a limit in how big the design can be. You have to use a another cloth on the back especially if your fabric is to thin
When your cloth is fixed on the special frame you can start the process
The machine is turned on , and it boots up
During the boot then machine will give a warning because it will move certain things like the foot with the needle.
There are several feet you can use, for this embroidery I use the U foot.
With this buttons you can configure the machine
The file for the design was on an USB stick, the machine recognizes the file And loads it in to the machine UI
Here I could change the speed but also the number of stiches
Then I centered my design exactly in the middle of my handkerchief and press OK
The process started, overall it would take 30 minutes.
After this handkerchief was finished I started another
I tried a green one now, with another color of thread
After a while it can happen that the bobbin will get empty and you’ll have to stop the process to fix this. The bobbin holds the thread that is at the under of the working area After filling up the bobbin you can start the machine again, the process will start at the excact point where it stopped.
The machine starts again and finish the process
I loved the embroidery I had never done this and I can not wait to make some more designs and embroider hats, shirts or jackets
