19. Invention, intellectual property and income

I decided to make some wearable tech for my final project. My tech of choice would be a mask that one can use to take pictures and record live video. For this I am using the Arudcam Mini 2mp as the main device. What I plan to do is program the device take photo and video using and Arduino Uno. From here I will design a mask with a built in mount to host the camera.

Design

In order for the device to be mounted in the mask I had to make a mock up of my head as a model for the mask design. I used a obj file I had from a previous assignment. The design process went the same as the earlier attempts the only difference is in this one I created a boxed mount on the inside of the mask to hold the Arducam in place. To do it had to take the measurements of the Arducam and key them into the change parameter feature in fusion 360.

Intent

I intend for this device to be a toy for children the age of about 9 to 16. The idea is for children to have something that can introduce them to film in a fun way. What better way than to have a pretend mask that takes photos and video from the camera man’s point of view.

I/P Patents

To protect my this design. I decided to get a design patent . That patent protects me from any deign infringement on my sketches or provides patent protection to a specific design of a product that is illustrated in the design patent. It lasts for a period of fifteen years from the date that the design patent is granted. Since i’ still in production mode I will file a non provisional utility patent . Here in the US we have what is called a first inventor file system . Where whoever files the idea or concept first, even if it not completed, will own the rights to the design. That way I’m covered from my design from now all the way up to the finalization of the device. I found information of both design and utility patents.
